Tucked away in the last remote hamlet Kilavarai, 46kms from Kodaikanal is a magical land with a perennial stream fed by natural springs. Very few people are aware of this area which still light firewood to heat bath water and eucalyptus oil, abundantly available in the area, used for its medicinal properties. The wellness centre was designed using local material as carrying material to this region is cumbersome and expensive due to its terrain. The construction technique adapted was also primitive Gabion and exclusively local considering the site on step mountains prone to erosion

The entire plan was revamped to achieve a cohesive unit and the floor was reworked with metal support to achieve level and flow. The rooms were organized to be comfortable, spacious, with art work that depicted the garden city’s flora and fauna. Cooking as an everyday activity for a working individual becomes an arduous task. As a relief Masterchef Food ventures Pvt Ltd, spearheaded by the daughter, Mahalakshmi, of the legendary ‘Nilgiris since 1905’ brand, built a concept to introduce ready to heat and eat meals, sometimes just with and addition of a protein. The idea was new in the market and required a bright, quirky and catchy concept to push it through. Designing from the logo to the branding image, text and the pop-up kiosk as a whole was our given task. A fairytale touch with elves and fairies doing the hard labour was the perfect magic solution thus

A restaurant curated for the different styles of Biryani available globally. The entrance has a caricature carved in brass and set in a terracotta base along with smaller specially made kiln burnt tiles depicting different moods of the caricature around Biryani indulgence. The interiors are aligned with the theme showcasing a biryani ‘handi’ that slow cooks the rice for its aromatic flavour, a global map that indicates Biryani as a favorite delicacy across nations along with a dash of history. Rice stalks are another associated feature that adorn the walls in its simplest form. Tones are kept restrained to allow for the flavours of the dish to be the highlight.

PROJECT CONCEPT

A restaurant curated for the Oriya, Bengali and Assamese palate serving authentic cuisine from the region in collaboration with the famous Bijoli Grill of Kolkata and the equally popular Bangaliana (original enterprise) of Bengaluru in a compact space just above the Iconic K C Das in Namma Uru. This space was designed such that its walls transform into the myriad shades of the Bay of Bengal during the day allowing one to completely immerse themselves into the spirit of the region and its food and culture. The corner end was conceptualized and converted into a special table that sits on the jetty enjoying the sunset glow of the ocean.

The project was in collaboration with Mr. E Shivprakash (producer) and Mr. Ravi (set designer), both alumni of Chitra Kala Parishad and part of the Kannada film fraternity
